Data Visualisation

Database of Byzantine Literati

DBL aims to map Byzantine intellectuals’ social and spatial mobility and allow modern scholars to visualise the social networks of medieval people (ego networks). DBL was created by a cross-disciplinary team of coding specialists and historians, and it was funded as part of the project PAIXUE. Foteini’s role was instrumental in developing the database’s structure and technical features. She both incentivised the development of several DBL’s features and acted as a bridge for the communication between team members with a technology or a humanities background.
